<p>The Rock and Roast<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong> starts at 2:00</strong></span> and stops serving around 8:00 or when food runs out. We need every family to help at this event.<br />
The<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong> dads</strong></span> are needed to help man the &#8220;pig boxes&#8221; out behind the gym. We also need help on Sunday morning cleaning the pig boxes.<br />
There is something for everyone to do. Please come out and help.</p>
<p>BAKED GOODS: WE CAN NOT PULL THIS EVENT OFF WITHOUT EVERY FAMILY PROVIDING AT LEAST ONE HOMEMADE DESSERT. PLEASE BRING TO THE CAFETERIA SATURDAY MORNING.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">Our next BIG fundraiser is the Rock n Roast Music event that takes place on Saturday Feb.4th.  This event is a day filled with fantastic Music from our community, a fabulous Pork Roast Dinner prepared by Chef  John Correa from Cafe Sole and a silent auction that has grown over the years.  We are asking our families again if you own a business, have friends that own a business, know any artists or want to offer any type of monetary donation that we are accepting those now.  Please bring any donations to the school, or call Robin Beede ( 305) 304-7451 and I would be happy to pick up donations from you.   We look forward to another successful event.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">Howard Livingston and Miler Marker 24 Band will be preforming this year, along with Paul Cotton from Poco and Bubba System with many more artists to preform.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">Make sure to tell your friends and mark the date.  Saturday February 4th from 2-9pm.  We&#8221;ll serve lunch and dinner, have great entertainment and a silent auction that will knock your socks off.</span></p>

<p>The Mary Immaculate ship has set sail for another school year and we are happy your family is aboard.  Thank you for helping get the school year off to such a smooth start!</p>
<p><strong>Below are some important bits of information.</strong></p>
<p><strong>First</strong><strong> School</strong><strong> Mass of the Year</strong></p>
<p>Our school Mass is each Friday at 8:15 in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church with our first Mass of the year being this Friday, August 26<sup>th</sup>.  Please know that you are invited to attend any and all Masses with your child. Please watch the monthly calendar for special Masses or changes to this schedule.</p>
<p><strong>Family Lunches on Fridays</strong></p>
<p>Each Friday you are welcome to join your child for lunch. Bring a lunch and meet your child at their lunch area.  Please <strong>do not deliver</strong> lunches on other days.  The hot lunch program will be starting soon.  Information will be forthcoming from the Parent Coordinator, Shannon Musmanno.</p>
<p><strong>Snack Room Now Open</strong></p>
<p>The snack room is open each day from 11:30 to 12:30.  The Zurheide Family supplies and organizes the snack room.  We need a parent volunteer for each day from 11:30 to 12:30.  Call Ms. Cindy at 294-1031 to sign up.  This is a great way to get your 20 volunteer hours.</p>
<p><strong>Parent Handbook Online</strong></p>
<p>Each parent is required to sign a form stating that they have read and acknowledge the policies provided in the school handbook.  The <a href="../wp-content/uploads/2009/02/Handbook11-12.August.pdf" target="_blank">2011-12 MISS School Handbook </a>handbook is located in the &#8220;Documents&#8221; section on our website – <a href="http://www.maryimmaculatekeywest.com/">www.maryimmaculatekeywest.com</a>.  Please refer to it frequently.</p>
<p><strong>Teacherweb.com</strong></p>
<p><strong></strong>This is a very valuable tool for the success of your child.  Teachers post announcements concerning upcoming events but more importantly, teachers post homework assignments.  If your child misses school, please check the website for assignments. Go to:  <a href="http://www.maryimmaculatekeywest.com/">www.maryimmaculatekeywest.com</a> and click on <a title="TeacherWeb" href="../teacherweb/">TeacherWeb</a>.</p>
<p><strong>After Care Program</strong></p>
<p>The cost for after school care is $3.00 per hour or any part of an hour.  Please be sure to pay for each week’s care on Friday.  Thank you.</p>
<p><strong>Pick Up, Dismissal on Rainy Days</strong></p>
<p>Classrooms open at 7:45 a.m.  Students and parents, please wait until 7:45 a.m. to go to your classes.</p>
<p>Pick Up is in the back parking lot.  Students must be picked up by 3:00 p.m. or they will be sent to the after school care program.</p>
<p>Rainy day pick up is in the front of school.</p>
<p>In the case of an approaching hurricane, we follow Monroe County Schools’ announcements.</p>
<p><strong>The Gift Shop</strong></p>
<p>Our gift shop, located behind St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, is our biggest fundraising venue.  All profits are donated to support the school.  Liz Buchman runs the gift shop and could <strong>use your help</strong>. It has been COMPLETELY renovated.</p>

<p>BOOK FAIR</p>
<p>The Book Fair is in the library and has some great deals.  It is open from 7:30 to 8:15, 11:35 to 1:30 and 2:50 to 4:00 each day.  We will have  special evening hours tomorrow  Wednesday the 7th from 5:30 to 7:30pm.  We&#8217;ll have a little drink and some lite fare while you browse the Book Fair.  The Book Fair ends on Friday.</p>
<p>CHRISTMAS PARADE</p>
<p>Thank you to Suzanne Moore and all the parents and students who worked on the Christmas Parade Float!        IT WAS SPECTACULAR!  We won 1<sup>st</sup> Place in our division.</p>
<p>UNIFORMS</p>
<p>It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure that their child comes to school in the proper uniform.  Please refer to the uniform policy posted online and MAKE SURE that your child is in uniform.  This is not an issue that teachers should have to monitor.  It causes hard feelings if some students are dressed correctly and others come out of uniform.  We have lots of extra uniforms that have been turned in.  Help yourself.  Blue, Grey, Black or White Jackets only.</p>

<p><strong>St.</strong><strong> Mary’s Flea Market</strong><br />
 If you have good stuff to donate- clothing, kitchen items, books- we can take them at our Flea Market that runs every Saturday outside the rectory.  (9am-2pm) Bring it on Saturday or anytime during the week. Every Monday, Rosemary gives the school a check and the flea market is well know around the island.  Please help us and donate your stuff  for our school.</p>

<p><strong>Box Tops-</strong>Cut and collect box tops, drop them off at school and each box top brings in $0.10.  Those dimes add up to big money.</p>

 If you shop at Footlocker, Travelocity, Flowers.com and Subway you can help raise money for our school.  These merchants have a link from our site to help our school raise funds.</p>
<p><strong>World’s Finest Chocolate Bars-October</strong><br />
 Each year our community looks forward to the kids from Mary Immaculate coming around selling the World’s Finest Chocolate Bars.  Each family takes home a box of 50 bars. We ask each family to sell at least one box or more if you can.</p>
<p><strong>Fantasy Fest Parking-Fri and Sat Oct 29-30</strong><br />
 We park cars all over the property at Mary Immaculate.  We need helpers from Friday 12n thru Saturday night midnight.  Its’ fun and we raise BIG BUCKS. Last year over $20,000.   Sign up in the office.</p>
<p><strong>Book Fair (early December)</strong><br />
 Each year the Scholastic Book Fair comes to Mary Immaculate.  It runs for one week and we open the fair before school, during lunches and after school.  We need a parent coordinator to help organize the volunteers that is needed to run the Book Fair.  It’s fun and the kids LOVE IT.</p>

<p><strong>Tea Party and Handbag Auction-Nov 13 (1pm-5pm)</strong></p>
<p>WANTED ALL LADIES.  Come and celebrate and have a bit of fun at the 2<sup>nd</sup> annual Handbag Auction. If you have any handbags or accessories to donate we could use your donations.  We auction off designer handbags (and knockoffs) with a REAL AUCTIONEER. We also have a Chinese Auction with wallets, totes, jewelry and women’s accessories.   With lots of wine and champagne it’s sure to be a lot of fun. Event Coordinator  Yakuna-305-304-8278</p>
<p><strong>Rock n Roast- Feb 5</strong><br />
 This event has become one of the largest for Mary Immaculate. It consists of LIVE music throughout the entire event, with a full Pork Roast Dinner prepared by Chef John Correa from Café Sole and a silent auction with lots of great stuff.  Last year we had over 300 items.  If anyone has anything to donate (items, gift certificates)  to the silent auction please contact Robin Beede the coordinator (305-304-7451).</p>
<p><strong>Boot Sale-</strong><br />
 If you are thinking of cleaning out your closet and don’t know what to do with your stuff, drive it to our school during our BOOT SALE and sell it right out of your car.  Or set up a table to display your treasures.  Easy great fundraiser and a great way to finally get rid of that stuff you don’t want any longer. This fundraiser needs a parent coordinator.</p>
<p><strong>Knights of Columbus Fish Fry’s</strong><br />
 Our Fish Fry’s have become famous and our neighbors look forward to this Friday night tradition during Lent.  KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS serve it up in our cafeteria.The families of Mary Immaculate bring desserts, help to set up and clean up.Each classroom will be given a certain week to be in charge and it’s up to those parents to help with the Fry that week.  But we can always use EVERYONE’S desserts each week.</p>
<p><strong>Car Raffle</strong><strong> </strong><br />
 Mr. Earl Duncan has been VERY GENEROUS to our school and has donated a NEW CAR to our school that we raffle off.  We ask that each family sell 2 tickets and we need help selling them after all masses.  We need a parent coordinator to help schedule the volunteers to sell after church.  A few parents have done it during the entire sale of the tickets and we need more helpers.</p>
