Childcare and Activities: If you are helping at the Rock and Roast, you can sign up to leave your child in Childcare. Please stop by the office to sign up.

Getting posters out around town, putting flags along Truman, getting the sandwich boards in position, laminating signs to be used at the cafeteria

Parking and gates. The church parking lot needs to be blocked off until after 6:00 mass. The points of entry need to be staffed to sell tickets.

The Rock and Roast starts at 2:00 and stops serving around 8:00 or when food runs out. We need every family to help at this event.
The dads are needed to help man the “pig boxes” out behind the gym. We also need help on Sunday morning cleaning the pig boxes.
There is something for everyone to do. Please come out and help.

BAKED GOODS: WE CAN NOT PULL THIS EVENT OFF WITHOUT EVERY FAMILY PROVIDING AT LEAST ONE HOMEMADE DESSERT. PLEASE BRING TO THE CAFETERIA SATURDAY MORNING.

The food, music and fun have made this one of the most popular events in the lower Keys! Don’t miss it.

Howard Livingston and Miler Marker 24 Band will be preforming this year, along with Paul Cotton from Poco and Bubba System with many more artists to preform.

Make sure to tell your friends and mark the date.  Saturday February 4th from 2-9pm.  We”ll serve lunch and dinner, have great entertainment and a silent auction that will knock your socks off.

We always need lots of helpers close to the event to chop and slice and help set up for event so THANKS in advance.

Our new annual event is dedicated to all the  mothers , grandmothers and friends for your hard work throughout the years.  Ladies, put on your best dress and hat (or flower in your hair) and come join us for this great event.  There will be a variety of teas, appetizers, dessert, plenty of  champagne and a LIVE handbag auction.

Donation items needed:
New or Used-good condition handbags, wallets, totes, jewelry and women’s accessories. (Designer brands would be a plus).  We also need sponsors, volunteers, champagne, wine, finger food and baked goods.  If your business or any business you know would like to help sponsor, please contact us.  We will pick up the items for you or you can drop it off at the front desk at Mary Immacula

Below are some important bits of information.

First School Mass of the Year

Our school Mass is each Friday at 8:15 in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church with our first Mass of the year being this Friday, August 26^th.  Please know that you are invited to attend any and all Masses with your child. Please watch the monthly calendar for special Masses or changes to this schedule.

Family Lunches on Fridays

Each Friday you are welcome to join your child for lunch. Bring a lunch and meet your child at their lunch area.  Please do not deliver lunches on other days.  The hot lunch program will be starting soon.  Information will be forthcoming from the Parent Coordinator, Shannon Musmanno.

Snack Room Now Open

The snack room is open each day from 11:30 to 12:30.  The Zurheide Family supplies and organizes the snack room.  We need a parent volunteer for each day from 11:30 to 12:30.  Call Ms. Cindy at 294-1031 to sign up.  This is a great way to get your 20 volunteer hours.

Parent Handbook Online

Each parent is required to sign a form stating that they have read and acknowledge the policies provided in the school handbook.  The 2011-12 MISS School Handbook handbook is located in the “Documents” section on our website – www.maryimmaculatekeywest.com.  Please refer to it frequently.

This is a very valuable tool for the success of your child.  Teachers post announcements concerning upcoming events but more importantly, teachers post homework assignments.  If your child misses school, please check the website for assignments. After Care Program

The cost for after school care is $3.00 per hour or any part of an hour.  Please be sure to pay for each week’s care on Friday.  Thank you.

Pick Up, Dismissal on Rainy Days

Classrooms open at 7:45 a.m.  Students and parents, please wait until 7:45 a.m. to go to your classes.

Pick Up is in the back parking lot.  Students must be picked up by 3:00 p.m. or they will be sent to the after school care program.

Rainy day pick up is in the front of school.

In the case of an approaching hurricane, we follow Monroe County Schools’ announcements.

The Gift Shop

Our gift shop, located behind St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, is our biggest fundraising venue.  All profits are donated to support the school.  Liz Buchman runs the gift shop and could use your help. It has been COMPLETELY renovated.

CONCH TRAIN CAROLING

The 1^st three trains are full.  We have confirmed a  4^th train and need everyone who wants to participate , to come in the office and secure your spot with payment.  Conch Trains will leave from the front of the school at 6:30 p.m. next Monday.  Social from 6:00 to 6:30 in the breezeway, please bring a Christmas treat to share on a disposable container. ALL PARKING WILL BE IN THE BACK PARKING LOT ONLY.

BOOK FAIR

The Book Fair is in the library and has some great deals.  It is open from 7:30 to 8:15, 11:35 to 1:30 and 2:50 to 4:00 each day.  We will have  special evening hours tomorrow  Wednesday the 7th from 5:30 to 7:30pm.  We’ll have a little drink and some lite fare while you browse the Book Fair.  The Book Fair ends on Friday.

CHRISTMAS PARADE

Thank you to Suzanne Moore and all the parents and students who worked on the Christmas Parade Float!        IT WAS SPECTACULAR!  We won 1^st Place in our division.

UNIFORMS

It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure that their child comes to school in the proper uniform.  Please refer to the uniform policy posted online and MAKE SURE that your child is in uniform.  This is not an issue that teachers should have to monitor.  It causes hard feelings if some students are dressed correctly and others come out of uniform.  We have lots of extra uniforms that have been turned in.  Help yourself.  Blue, Grey, Black or White Jackets only.

Leggings must be solid blue, black or white ONLY.

St. Mary’s Flea Market
If you have good stuff to donate- clothing, kitchen items, books- we can take them at our Flea Market that runs every Saturday outside the rectory.  (9am-2pm) Bring it on Saturday or anytime during the week. Every Monday, Rosemary gives the school a check and the flea market is well know around the island.  Please help us and donate your stuff  for our school.

Box Tops-Cut and collect box tops, drop them off at school and each box top brings in $0.10.  Those dimes add up to big money.

World’s Finest Chocolate Bars-October
Each year our community looks forward to the kids from Mary Immaculate coming around selling the World’s Finest Chocolate Bars.  Each family takes home a box of 50 bars. We ask each family to sell at least one box or more if you can.

Fantasy Fest Parking-Fri and Sat Oct 29-30
We park cars all over the property at Mary Immaculate.  We need helpers from Friday 12n thru Saturday night midnight.  Its’ fun and we raise BIG BUCKS. Last year over $20,000.   Sign up in the office.

Book Fair (early December)
Each year the Scholastic Book Fair comes to Mary Immaculate.  It runs for one week and we open the fair before school, during lunches and after school.  We need a parent coordinator to help organize the volunteers that is needed to run the Book Fair.  It’s fun and the kids LOVE IT.

Tea Party and Handbag Auction-Nov 13 (1pm-5pm)

WANTED ALL LADIES.  Come and celebrate and have a bit of fun at the 2^nd annual Handbag Auction. If you have any handbags or accessories to donate we could use your donations.  We auction off designer handbags (and knockoffs) with a REAL AUCTIONEER. Rock n Roast- Feb 5
This event has become one of the largest for Mary Immaculate. It consists of LIVE music throughout the entire event, with a full Pork Roast Dinner prepared by Chef John Correa from Café Sole and a silent auction with lots of great stuff.  Last year we had over 300 items.  If anyone has anything to donate (items, gift certificates)  to the silent auction please contact Robin Beede the coordinator (305-304-7451).

Boot Sale-
If you are thinking of cleaning out your closet and don’t know what to do with your stuff, drive it to our school during our BOOT SALE and sell it right out of your car.  Or set up a table to display your treasures.  Easy great fundraiser and a great way to finally get rid of that stuff you don’t want any longer. This fundraiser needs a parent coordinator.

Knights of Columbus Fish Fry’s
Our Fish Fry’s have become famous and our neighbors look forward to this Friday night tradition during Lent.  KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS serve it up in our cafeteria.The families of Mary Immaculate bring desserts, help to set up and clean up.Each classroom will be given a certain week to be in charge and it’s up to those parents to help with the Fry that week.  But we can always use EVERYONE’S desserts each week.

Car Raffle
Mr. Earl Duncan has been VERY GENEROUS to our school and has donated a NEW CAR to our school that we raffle off.  We ask that each family sell 2 tickets and we need help selling them after all masses.  We need a parent coordinator to help schedule the volunteers to sell after church.  A few parents have done it during the entire sale of the tickets and we need more helpers.
